Q:  Who has been the most influential person in your career that has acted as a mentor to you?

A:  I have had the distinct pleasure of working with some amazing leaders in the past ten years. The first individual that comes to mind really shaped me as an account person at Team Detroit (formally JWT). It was Scott Kavanagh. I worked for Scott for a few years, both in Boston and in Detroit and respect his leadership, knowledge and innovation. He allowed me the opportunity to run some amazing programs and grow into a strong account leader. From there, I’ve been able to work with some key players who’ve helped me grow in the digital landscape – and pushed me to seek innovative strategies for clients. However, I’ll be a bit cliché and attribute a lot of my individual growth to my parents. My drive, focus and ability see the bigger picture are all directly related to their guidance and support growing up. They have always been supportive and pushed me to do more, do better, and do not settle – and those are attributes I’ll always carry with me.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about digital marketing? About your current company?

A:  I LOVE that digital marketing is always changing. There is always something new and refreshing in the space to learn or try. Especially social! You will never “know it all”, and you will always learn something new.

My favorite thing about iProspect…hands down it is the people. This team is amazing! Here in Detroit and globally, I work with some of the smartest individuals who are serious about their specialties. They push themselves to work hard, work as a team and do something different. And… we get to play a little as well! We might work hard, but we believe in playing hard too!

Q: What’s the most memorable moment of your career?

A:  I have had the opportunity to be a part of some amazing things thanks to my career path. I’ve been able to play softball on Fenway, be on the field during halftime at a Patriots game, travel the US (and a bit globally) to work towards launching campaigns and cross-collaborating with teams. However, the one piece that sticks out is the camaraderie in Detroit. Detroit is such a small community, and yet we come together in advertising. Regardless of the company. Or your specialty. We are willing to pull for each other and pick each other back up. I love the Detroit advertising community.

Q: What advice would you give to a young person in the business, or even a college student looking to get into it?

A:  Don’t be so eager to get to the next level that you forget what you’ve already learned, or that you’re done learning at your current level.

Too many times, we keep trying to reach the next level – the next opportunity, the next campaign, the next…. whatever. We lose track of what we’ve already learned. We focus on the gap (or think we’ve learned it all). Become an expert in your current role, so that you can slowly begin to learn the next one. Because, at any level, in any job, you are never done learning. It happens every day, and we must be open to it and embrace it to continue growing.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about 313 Digital?

A:  Having the opportunity to work alongside some of the smartest people in this industry! This is a group is fantastic. The knowledge and passion they bring are unmatched. Plus… they throw a good party.
