Q:  Who has been the most influential person in your career that has acted as a mentor to you?

A:  There have been a few along the way but most recently, Malissa Martin at Team Detroit – She has been a mentor since I joined the agency as part of the mobile group. She’s been an advocate for me in my continued growth within the company. And most impressively, she is successfully trail blazing a path for women in a mostly male-dominated industry.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about digital marketing? About your current company?

A:  Digital marketing is such a broad label. I think many agencies are still figuring out what it means to them and how to become a fully digital operation. From my perspective, I think it’s important to let the creative lead and use digital technology to support the raw ideas. I find the challenge, and the gratification, in using digital capabilities to expand creative reach, not dictate it.

Q: What’s the most memorable moment of your career?

A:  Winning Mobile Marketing Association Gold for the Lincoln Motor Company mobile website redesign.

Q: What advice would you give to a young person in the business, or even a college student looking to get into it?

A: I believe there needs to be an innate passion for tech and figuring out how to use the ever-expanding digital landscape to shape meaningful experiences for the end user. It’s really all about problem solving with tools that are constantly evolving. This can be both frustrating and extremely rewarding, but with passion and curiosity present, the road will always be worth travelling.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about 313 Digital?

A: I love that 313 Digital has created a local forum for people working in this industry. I think it’s especially important now that Detroit is becoming a formidable player in the digital game. It’s great to see 313 Digital providing an outlet and resources for the continued growth of Detroit’s digital culture.
